True commitment

When you are truly committed the world conspires to support you in all sorts of ways that you could never have believed possible.

Given the chance meetings and happy coincidences that happen to me I often wonder about the “near misses” – there must be hundreds of them. My neighbour met someone she had had a holiday romance with 10 years ago and found out that the person had been living in an apartment she could see from her kitchen window.

The harder I practise, the luckier I get.

    Some things that happened:

  • After committing to the name I discovered that “Yo” is the greeting between men in Japan.

  • The YO! logo as drawn reads “Japanese” in Hebrew, if you squint a little.

  • I wanted to open in Soho, but the building was sold to someone else. I fought for a year and won it from five competitors, all with better finances than mine.

  • Sony Consumer Products gave me valuable sound and video equipment with no contractual obligations.

  • 4i, the design company, developed the brand identity and never charged me a penny until I could afford it.

  • I was given state-of-the-art lighting worth $100,000 as a test site.
